A bit about us

Jose and I created Wylde Bird Bohemia after many years of working together in hair and makeup across editorial, fashion and advertising.

We wanted a space where we could continue that creative relationship while connecting with our local community and bringing a little of our world and experience to St Leonards.

THE SPACE

One of St Leonards' most beautiful rooms

The Story of 79 Bohemia Road

Built around 1875, 79 Bohemia Road has been part of St Leonards’ independent retail history for well over a century.

Its beautiful Art Nouveau shopfront dates from around 1910, with original decorative tiles, stained glass and plaster work still surviving today, and the premises were once associated with the Mazawattee Tea Company before later becoming Feaist Bakers.

Now a Grade II listed building that still has all of its original features, down to the old baker’s block that we now use as our salon stations.

Jamie

I started my career in hairdressing at 16, training at Vidal Sassoon before moving through salons and into session hairdressing, working across editorial, fashion and advertising.

With over 30 years’ experience, my approach to hair has evolved towards a more conscious way of working. I’m particularly drawn to low-tox and organic colour, creating beautiful results while being mindful of what we put onto our bodies.

For me, great hair is about combining experience and creativity with choices that are kinder to both ourselves and the environment.

Jose

I began my career in Toronto with MAC Cosmetics before going on to work alongside Charlotte Tilbury across her fashion shows.

I later moved into editorial and advertising, working with an extensive range of leading beauty and fashion brands.

After decades of working with makeup, I discovered Manasi 7 and fell in love with the All Over Colour Pots for its multi purpose approach for creating the ultra natural, effortless no-makeup makeup look I love.  

Its considered approach to ingredients, sustainability and clean beauty made it a natural fit for me and for Wylde Bird Bohemia.
